Belarusians of America support Zmitser Dashkevich

Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in the USA sent a letter to the head of the correctional colony No. 9 in Horki, where Zmitser Dashkevich is imprisoned.

Belarusians of America express their concern with regard to the situation around Zmitser Dashkevich in the colony.

We are deeply concerned by the events which happen at the territory of the correctional colony in Horki, in particular, that Zmitser had punitive reprimands many times, got the status of “violent regime breaker” and was sent to disciplinary cells several times”, — the authors of the letter state.

The activists of the Belarusian diaspora in America call on the colony’s administration to be responsible and turn attention to the fact that “not only the Belarusian society, but the international community as well are watching over Dashkevich’s destiny.

We ask you to treat Zmitser Dashkevich as a person who has been sentenced illegally and is forced to be here in your establishment at the moment”, — stated in the letter.

The letter was signed by the participants of the traditional annual Belarusian festival which took place on July 23, 2011 in the Belarusian-American Community center in South River (New Jersey), 19 people altogether, including such key figures of the Belarusian diaspora in the United States as Yanka and Nadzeya Zaprudnik, Vitaut Kipel, Hanna Surmach, Viachka Stankevich and others.
